The Class A uniform, often known as the “dress uniform” among public safety personnel, is typically worn for formal and special occasions. These events include award ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and other official public ceremonies.

This vestment is used by Catholics, Anglicans, and Lutherans. It is often worn by altar servers and choir members. In Catholic and high church Anglican traditions, clergy who are present at the Eucharist—but not leading the service—may also wear it.

In 1969, Pope Paul VI set four main liturgical colors for the Roman rite: white, green, red, and purple. Besides these, other colors like pink, light blue, gold, and black are sometimes used in vestments for special occasions or as alternatives to the official colors.

Catholic cardinals wear red robes to symbolize their readiness to give their lives for the Catholic faith.
