Roman Purple, Cut Long
Our long purple clergy vest comes in Roman purple, the clear violet with a slight blue cast that Catholic prelates and bishops of several other traditions wear. It continues beyond the hip line and has no sleeves, so it layers over a clergy shirt and gives a bishop or senior pastor a formal outline without a jacket.
Two Families of Purple
Purple clergy wear comes in two broad shades. Roman purple is cool and violet. Red purple, sometimes sold as magenta or fuchsia, is warmer and is common among Anglican, Episcopal and many Protestant bishops. If your shirt, chimere or tippet is the warmer shade, the long red purple clergy vest will match it better.

Who Wears Purple
Purple is closely tied to the office of bishop in many churches, and some denominations also assign it to monsignors, presiding elders or other senior ministers. Customs differ, so follow your church or diocese before wearing it.
Fabric
The vest is made of tropical suiting. That lightweight cloth breathes through a full day of visitations, and its wrinkle-resistant finish keeps the purple smooth when it comes out of a travel bag.
Sizing and Pricing
Ordered by letter, XS up to 6XL. XS–2XL $99.99; 3XL $104.99; 4XL–6XL $109.99. Because a bishop’s purple vest is normally worn over a clergy shirt, take your chest measurement with that shirt on.

Long Purple Clergy Vest FAQs
Who wears a purple clergy vest?
Purple is most often worn by bishops, and in some churches by monsignors, presiding elders or other senior clergy. Practice varies between denominations and dioceses, so check your own church’s dress guidelines before choosing purple.
Is Roman purple the same shade as red purple?
No. Roman purple leans toward blue and reads as a clean violet, while red purple leans toward red and looks closer to magenta or fuchsia. This long vest is Roman purple; choose the long red purple vest if the rest of your clergy wear is the warmer shade.
Which shirt goes with a long Roman purple vest?
In our photos it is worn with a gray shirt that has a collar tab, so the purple stays the focus. A black or matching purple clergy shirt also works. Make sure the shirt has a collar tab or collar that can show at the open collar.
How long is the long purple clergy vest?
It is cut to reach past the hips, longer than a standard waistcoat-style vest. The size chart gives a long-vest length of 36 inches for XS, rising to 42 inches for 6XL.
Is there a price difference for larger sizes of the purple vest?
Yes. XS through 2XL cost $99.99, size 3XL costs $104.99, and sizes 4XL to 6XL cost $109.99.
